MathCounts is a nationwide middle school enrichment program designed to stimulate excellence in mathematics and problem solving. In class we learn concepts, short cuts, use of a scientific calculator and share solution ideas to problems worked at home (3-5 each day). In February, winners of the class competition go to the regional competition. Top regional teams go to the state competition. Our team has gone to state four times! Most importantly, MathCounts makes math fun even for students who hate math. Students must be at grade level to participate.

Applied Math I Grades: 9-12 CLASS CLOSED
This personal finance course is based on Biblical principles and includes a weekly parent/student devotional. Practical life skills topics range from banking and budgeting, to comparison shopping, to the cost of operating a car, to maintaining a home. The goal of the class is for students to develop good habits of financial responsibility that will benefit them throughout their lives.
This course will include daily homework assignments (about 30 minutes) and a test in class each week. Parental involvement with the weekly devotional (great conversations!) and grading of assignments will be crucial to the success of your student. You will receive an answer key and instructional DVD. We’ll also try to have some fun in class and perhaps some field trips. (Text: Math U See Stewardship)
